I've been to Tan's twice now for their combo platters, (sweet and sour chicken). I've only gotten take out so I can't speak on the dine in experience, but the food has been very good.
They give you very generous portions, which I love, and their egg rolls are one of the best in the city.
The young lady who took my orders is very friendly.
I'll be back in the future! -

We go to Tans occasionally and have always enjoyed it, but today was different!
So, let's start with sitting at a table where either the tables are too high or the chairs are too low. Either way, I sit like a small child at the table.
The combos have a nice selection and my husband and I ordered. I ordered a pop with my meal and my husband ordered water. He asked for lots and lots of water.
Dinner came nice and quick and the portions were big and the glass of water was small.
The table was a table for two but, aside from being too high, it was so long that neither my husband nor I could reach the container of plum sauce in the middle, so essentially we played crokinole to share the sauce.
My husband ran out of water quickly, but there no servers in sight. In the meantime, I dropped my knife off of the table. I had to use my napkin to clean the table off. Again we waited for a server. (Cue the Jeopardy music here...) and we waited and we waited and we waited. FINALLY, a girl came out of the back. (Hallelujah!) but wait, she totally ignores us. No matter how much staring, coughing, slurping or ice cube shuffling caught her attention.
By now there are more people in the restaurant. I still have no knife. I really want to taste a sweet & Sour chicken ball, but I'm not sure I can manage it all in one bite, nor do I think my table neighbors want to see me try. So, I got up and took silverware and napkins from another table. This must have been an issue at another table because a fellow patron got up and mimicked my move.
FINALLY, another girl comes out from the back room. We thought, thank goodness! We can finally get water. We were parched. BUT NO. Neither girl even remotely looked our way. I finally got tired of waiting. I got up and took a pitcher of water from their service area and brought it to our table. Here's the crazy thing, neither girl even saw me do that!
We were finished for quite a while before our server came over and asked if everything was ok...you know, the question every server asks you in the first five minutes of your meal?! We told her the food was fine and we would like a take away box. She brought the bill and placed the box on top of my knife ( that was covered in sweet and sour sauce). Guess what happened when I got out to the car and put the box on my lap?
Overall, the food was good, but the service was terrible...terrible enough that we are going to start looking for a Chinese restaurant to consider our go to. -

I really like this restaurant. It's not real Chinese food but every once in a while you really crave some egg rolls. My favourite things here are the egg rolls and the almond chicken. If you ever want some nice fake Chinese food this place is great.

We always get Tans whenever the family wants takeout. Use to be great food and no problems for a while. Then they would forget parts of the order on a regular basis. Get home and something missing. Recently they must o switched cooks as everything is really greasy now and tastes totally different then usual. Use to be the place to go for sure but gone down hill the last few years.

Upon moving to Dartmouth I was in desperate search for a place that was comparable to the amazing food at Long Dragon in Sackville. This place, is NOT it.
Rude staff, bland food, just blah all together.
